Science Club

Science Club

Science Club is for Honor Roll students in 6th through 8th grades.  They meet usually on the first and third Mondays from 3:30-4:30 PM.

The second meeting of the month is for the club members to engage in some kind of enrichment activity.  This could be an experiment, engineering challenge, or learning game that either extends what has been or will be covered in science class or adds to the curriculum in some way.  Examples of things done include Mentos and soda, making hot air balloons, crystal growing, chemical reactions, and many more.

The first meeting of the month is for club members to watch some sort of educational movie or show that has science at its core.  During this meeting, snacks are allowed  and we usually try to discuss what we have seen at the end if time allows.

Science Club tries to take a few special field trips during the year.  These are on weekends and require parent chaperones/drivers for most destinations.  Club members can count on going to the City Museum during the Holidays and to Chicago for a day in May.

Parents/guardians can support Science Club by providing snacks for the movie meeting, being a chaperon for a field trip, and by encouraging their child to attend the meetings.
